Glen Lyon – Book Early As Space Is Limited
Day meets
The Grampian Club arranges monthly Day Meets 10 months of the year, usually on the second or third weekend. On each day meet there are different options for walks provided.
They are of varying grades, from easier low level walks to challenging mountain traverses. In the summer months the walks are often longer and there are often opportunities to do several Munros in a day.
If Grampian Club Members have a route they would like to do on the day they can contact the day meet organiser to arrange this (note that the minimum number in a group is preferably 2 in the summertime and 3 in the winter time).
We travel by coach from Dundee, picking up in Perth when heading west. Members are expected to choose walks that are within their own physical capabilities and the Day Meets Team organise attendees into parties of broadly similar ability.
There is a fee for the Day Meets coach (£18.50) which needs to be paid in advance at the time of booking, preferably via the online booking website, Entry Central, or by cheque.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the narrow road up the glen, the maximum size coach we can have is restricted, so please book early to make sure of your place (24 max).
Some suggested routes (OS Map 51):
- Carn Mairg Munros horseshoe circuit from Invervar: Carn Gorm, Meall Garbh, Carn Mairg, Meall nan Aighean (17km/1498m, 6-7 hours);
- Carn Mairg Munros traverse from Invervar to Fortingall (19km/1500m, 6-7 hrs);
- Munro and Corbett option – Beinn Dearg from Innerwick then on to Carn Gorm to Invervar (12.5km/1040m, 5-6hrs) NB: This route can also be done in reverse.
- Meall a’ Choire Leith, Meall Corranaich from Camusvrachan or Innerwick (16km/1170m, 6-7 hrs);
- An Stuc and Ben Lawers from Camusvrachan (17km/1295m, 6-7 hrs);
- Corbetts circuit of Cam Chreag and Beinn Dearg (20km/1220m, 6-7 hrs);
- Lower-level options from Innerwick into Rannoch Forest, or from Camusvrachan, into Gleann Da-Eig to Praying Hands of Mary.
NB: It’s possible we may still encounter winter conditions so ice axes, crampons, torches and other relevant safety equipment (e.g. shelter and survival bag, spare clothing) should be carried on the higher routes. And with that in mind, in winter conditions each group has to have a minimum of three members, so please provide an alternative route option when booking. Limited options for refreshments in Glen Lyon – Glenlyon tea room at Bridge of Balgie is only open 10am to 4 pm. The Fortingall Hotel has new owners and is open (in theory). Will check and update nearer the time.
