Killin (Lawers group)

Day meets

The Grampian Club arranges monthly Day Meets 10 months of the year, usually on the second or third weekend. On each day meet there are different options for walks provided.

They are of varying grades, from easier low level walks to challenging mountain traverses. In the summer months the walks are often longer and there are often opportunities to do several Munros in a day.

If Grampian Club Members have a route they would like to do on the day they can contact the day meet organiser to arrange this (note that the minimum number in a group is preferably 2 in the summertime and 3 in the winter time).

We travel by coach from Dundee, picking up in Perth when heading west. Members are expected to choose walks that are within their own physical capabilities and the Day Meets Team organise attendees into parties of broadly similar ability.

There is a fee for the Day Meets coach (£17.50) which needs to be paid in advance at the time of booking, preferably via the online booking website, Entry Central, or by cheque.

The seven Munros on the ridge above Loch Tay plus the Tarmachan Ridge are possibilities, with some shorter options south of Loch Tay also readily available.

Route options include:

  1. The big traverse – Lawers, Meall Greigh, Meall Garbh, An Stuc, Ben Lawers, Beinn Ghlas, Ben Lawers car park (15km/1495m, 7-8 hrs);
  2. Ben Lawers car park, Beinn Ghlas, Ben Lawers and return (10km/1020m, 4.5-5.5hrs); Alternative finish is to continue off Ben Lawers to Lawers village for pick-up.
  3. Tarmachan Ridge: Meall nan Tarmachan, Meall Garbh, Beinn nan Eachan, Creag na Caillich circuit (12km/860m, 5-6 hrs);
  4. Lawers car park, Meall Corranaich, Meall a’ Choire Leith, Lochan na Lairige (10.25km/680m, 4.5-5.5 hrs);
  5. Lower-level: Lawers village, Lawers Burn track, Lochan nan Cat, track out to A827 at Tombreck (12.5km/590m, 4-5 hrs);

Other Munro combinations are possible depending on conditions.

Winter meet: It is possible we may encounter winter weather on these hills at this time of year so ice axes, crampons and relevant winter gear should be carried and you should have the knowledge and skills to know how to use them.
